Access Conditions
Most survey forms contained in the Uren Collection are anonymous. This applies to the survey sheets gathered by Reverend Robert U'Ren in the late 1950s for the Brotherhood of St. Laurence Leisure Study. Identifiers in each case are familial (eg 'wife', 'husband') rather than the person's name.
The exception to this is one file of named, completed survey forms, in Series 6 Copies of Data from the Commonwealth Employment Service Files - All Clients For Whom a Diagnosis of Eilepsy was entered during 1959 (inventory item UREN00031). This information was gathered from 1959 Commonwealth Employment Service files for CES clients who had been diagnosed with epilepsy. The records includes the client's name, address, personal details, occupation, nature of employment, employment history, qualifications, factors affecting placement, general action, referrals, Commonwealth Employment Service interviewer and date. Specific information includes descriptions of an individual's emotional and psychological health, physical health, whether they were employed or, in the opinion of the interviewer, employable, relations with family, (including if estranged, etc), etc. The findings of this study into epilepsy and the prevailing community attitudes were not popular, and consequently the findings were never formally published. There may be personal privacy issues with public access to these records.
