- Summary
1st Named CI: Dr Deborah Mitchell
This is a national infrastructure project aiming to provide a very broad base of data to all Australian researchers and a more general release to government agencies and the public. The extension of the ASSDA network to the University of Western Australia was completed in December 2007 and publication of around 15 UWA data sets was completed in March 2008.
Further developmental work on the Australian Qualitative Archive (AQuA) was undertaken and a process of national consultations with qualitative researchers has commenced. This consultation process will identify major qualitative data sets to be deposited in AQuA.
Due to the inconsistent quality of the fiche records being used for the Historical Census and Colonial Data Archive (HCCDA) project, the original technology provider contracted to perform the digitization work was found to be unable to perform the work to the standard and price agreed in the quote. This necessitated another round of collecting quotes and speaking to other technology providers. A new contract has been made with the digitization scheduled for completion in June 2008. While the project has experienced a delay the research tool being built to support historical and demographic research remains of vital significance to Australian researchers.
Due to the delays to the HCCDA project a continuation of funds request was made to the ARC, and was approved.
